Mr. W.W. Newson & Miss D.W. Betts

The wedding took place on Saturday at St. Mary's, the Rev. J.H. Butcher officiating, of Mr. William Wailes Newson, youngest son of Mrs. A.J. Newson, 11 Kingsley-road and the late Mr. C.W. Newson, and Miss Doreen Winifred Betts, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Betts, 45 Welmore-road, Glinton.

The bridegroom is a welder with Mitchell Engineering Ltd. at Tower Works, and the bride is a bakery assistant with Turnill's, Bridge-street.

Mrs. Attfield played "Ave Maria" and accomapnied [sic] the singing of "The Lord is my Shepherd," and "Lead us, heavenly Father."

Given in marriage by the bridgegroom's brother-in-law, Mr. L. Mayersbeth, the bride wore white lace over net and a circular veil held in place by a coronet head-dress, a pearl necklace and pearl earrings. She carried a prayer book decorated with a spray of red and white roses.

The matron of honour, Mrs. E.M. Mayersbeth, sister of the bridegroom, was accompanied by two bridesmaids, Miss M.W. Mayersbeth and Miss P. Vines, nieces of the bridegroom. Two wore mauve dresses with matching head-dresses, gloves and shoes, and the third was in pink, also with head-dress, gloves and shoes to tone.

Mr. G.R. Newson, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

A reception was held at the bridegroom's home. Mr. and Mrs. Newson are to live at 120 Dickens-street.
